Carnlough is most definitely a seaside playground with a difference. The Natural Play Park is a move away from what has become the standard playground around the country - a fenced area with brightly coloured steel and plastic frame structures. Instead it has incorporated traditional play equipment into a natural landscape that is fun to play in, is visually attractive and is great for biodiversity. A win-win if there was ever one!
We were very excited to have been awarded this tender back in November 2015, it has been a long journey to get to where we are today but as you can see one worth waiting for. We have been very lucky to work with some great people from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, along with Tim from Austen Associates and the heart of the glens project team. Its fair to say that the local community are very excited with the installed playground which includes a securely enclosed park with slides, basket swings, balancing beams, a fairy house, multi-purpose tower structure, trees, wildflowers, grass mounds, boardwalks, seating, sunken outdoor classroom, toddler area and much much more.
The Natural playground encompasses a public green space approx 2940m2 in the seaside village of Carnlough. Due to the location of his Natural play park in Carnlough it will be a come to park as its situated in Ireland's famous scenic North Coast, close to the Giants Causeway and other famous landmarks. The site is designed on different levels with a meandering path which encourages children to explore to discover all the hidden gems of the playground. Great introduction to nature for kids helping them relate to the natural environment whilst having fun.
With the wide variety of equipment kids will have hours of fun!!!
